The Making of my Gingerbread Advent Calendar
The idea of this “Gingerbread Advent Calendar” was conceived after I watched the Netflix Christmas movie called The Holiday Calendar. I was inspired to create my own advent calendar, one that is unique and one that I could pass down as an heirloom. When I posted it on my Instagram page I didn’t realise how much attention it would eventually get. I’ve received countless DMs on Instagram asking if I could share where I got it and how I made it. At that time, I had no intention of creating a step-by-step video tutorial but only documenting it to share my behind-the-scenes.
This Christmas, I re-shared the video of my advent calendar to my followers again. I continue to receive questions about it so I thought I will do a much longer video sharing how I made the calendar. Luckily, I still have the longer raw videos from last year and made a completely new video of my process.
I commissioned Doofa & Co Designs (based in Australia) to create this advent calendar for me. They already have the design, which was exactly what I had in mind for this project. I just told them my exact measurements.
This calendar has deep drawers so you can put larger items in every box. The measurements were also intentional so I could put my Precious Moments figurines in the middle and create a “Christmas living room scene’.
As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t think about making a step-by-step tutorial for this advent calendar so I wasn’t able to record the assembly process. But it’s pretty straightforward and closely similar to the Kaisercraft Advent Calendar instructions.
If you also want to copy my drawer designs, feel free to do so.
